A Neutral Easter Tablescape

It happened again, I saw some dishes and that was it, another tablescape was hatched!  I always think of pretty pastels for Easter, but these beautiful square salad plates I spotted at Home Goods called to me.  I don’t know what it was about these dishes, I don’t usually like square plates, but it was the image, the little rabbit that looks like he is just hiding beneath the flowers, with the butterfly fluttering above.  There is pale yellow which along with the green and shades of brown became my color palette for this natural tablescape.  I find this so calm and restful compared to the bright colors I first think of for Easter.

After I chose these dishes, the rest of my table came together very quickly and easily.  I had this natural fiber tablecloth that looks like it is burlap, but it isn’t.  I then added these large white candle trays I picked up months ago at Ikea.  They were so inexpensive and so unique that I knew I would use them again and again.  I topped those with burlap chargers I got at Hobby Lobby.  The pretty creamy yellow plates are from Home Goods, also.

I selected dark brown cloth napkins for a nice contrast while still staying in the same neutral color family.  I purchased the yellow wine glasses years ago and paired them with clear crystal water glasses.

A watering can I used for my daughter’s Peter Rabbit themed baby shower seemed like a natural for the center of the table.  I just added some pale yellow artificial forsythia, a couple of natural nests with pale brown and yellow eggs and of course, a timid little rabbit.  I hope Mr. McGregor of Peter Rabbit fame doesn’t find him hiding near the watering can!

This was a relatively easy tablescape to create and I think it will let the food take center stage for an Easter dinner.  I would never have dreamed I would have been so happy with a tablescape for Springtime with such a little bit of color, but I am thrilled with the final result!  Maybe you will decide to design a more natural tablescape for an upcoming holiday.  Happy Spring and Happy Easter!

  1. Oh Chloe I adore this table!!! The colours are just beautiful. Lately I have been heading more towards the natural colours and I just love the look. The bunny plates and the soft yellow dinner plates just work so well together. I have seen the white candle trays at Ikea and had not thought of using them as chargers. What a great idea and what a gorgeous table.

  4. Hi Chloe. I was at Home Goods and spotted the same cute rabbit pattern. Unfortunately, they had already sold out. What I had spotted was a lone appetizer (5 1/2″) sized 2 plate bundle tucked away in the clearance area. I couldn’t pass it up, but will have to use it as an accent vs the feature of a pretty table setting. I love the neutral colors you used to pull it all together. I am really new to blogging and tablescaping, but am trying my hand at it. I found your lovely post via Tablescape Thursdays at BNOTP.

I saw some bunny plates at HomeGoods, too, (I wish I had seen the ones you found!) and they will be adorning my grandkids’ table at Easter (gotta love that store!). I really like the way you have used these neutral colors. Your new plates are highlighted perfectly and the table is warm and welcoming. You’ve done a lovely job and your guests are sure to appreciate the atmosphere you have created. Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  7. I am not a big fan of pastel colours either so am very fond of your “neutral” table. Those plates are so cute and you’ve highlighted them wonderfully with the natural looking backdrop. The watering can and forsythia with the cute bunny make the perfect centerpiece – that bunny resembles the ones on the plates.

  8. Hi Chole, I am in awe at your table setting, it is wonderful. The bunny plates are wonderful and the colors perfect. I love the glasses too and Peter Rabbit adds the perfect touch!

  11. I love the neutral Easter/Spring table. Everything compliments each other. I love how you decorate for various holidays. I searched high and low for those cute bunny plates and found some. Would you mind sharing with me the make of the creamy yellow plates please? I realize this post was years ago but perhaps I’ll get lucky and find the yellow plates as well. Thank you.
