Best Christmas Appetizer!
Best Christmas Appetizer!
Today I wanted to share the recipe for what my husband calls the best Christmas appetizer. I think he says that because for some reason, this is the only time of year I make it!
This recipe was given to me by a dear friend that I met during my first year of marriage. We actually came together because we showed dogs together. She and her husband became the best of friends with my husband and I. Sadly we both of our dear friends have passed, but what wonderful memories I have when preparing some of the recipes she had passed down to me.
- 8 Ounces of Braunschweiger
- 2 Tablespoons Chili Sauce
- 4 Dashes of Tabasco Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons of Mayonnaise
- 8 Ounces of Cream Cheese
- 1/2 Cup of Finely Minced Onions
- 1 Medium Jar of Pimento Stuffed Olives
- Bring the braunschweiger and the cream cheese to room temperature. Divide the cream cheese into 3 ounces and 5 ounces. Set the 5 ounce portion aside. Mix all of the ingredients EXCEPT for the 5 ounces of cream cheese together until mixed throughly. Form the mixture into a ball. Refrigerate the ball for one hour. While the mixture is firming up in the refrigerator, slice olives into thin slices. Put the cream cheese into the microwave for 10 seconds on high. Take the ball out and ‘frost’ it with the cream cheese. Cover with slices of olive. Cover and seal, place in the refrigerator and take it out when you are ready to serve. Serve with crackers.
It may not be all that pretty, but above is what your mixture will look like when you put it into the refrigerator to firm up.
You should be proud to serve this up to your holiday guests and they will love it! Add this braunschweiger ball to your holiday party cocktail party table!
Hi Chloe, this looks so good and how pretty to serve for a gathering. Love this on a bed of lettuce. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Have fun the remainder of our hop.
Thank you! Looking forward to the rest of the recipes!
How holiday pretty Chloe! Stunning party presentation!
Thank you Jenna! (You know I am better at presentation than actual work in the kitchen, although I did make this all by myself!)
Chloe, is this recipe an old family favorite? It’s really pretty. I’m not familiar with braunschweiger, but this has peeked my interest. I love olives and anything that can be scooped on a cracker for holiday parties. Perfect make ahead appetizer. Thanks so much for being a part of the Holiday Recipe Blog Hop. You are my blog hop inspiration.
This was handed down to me by a dear friend that I used to show dogs with! Sadly, she has passed away, but she truly taught me the art of the dinner party, and gave me so many wonderful recipes!
So pretty, Chloe! And yum, I love braunschweiger and haven’t had it in forever! This fits right in with our low carb diet too, I will definitely give it a try! Happy holidays!! xo, Andrea
Thank you Andrea! This is always popular when I entertain!
Chloe, this looks delicious and perfect for a holiday party! You have displayed your dish beautifully. You are so talented, and I always admire what you do! I hope that you have a wonderful day!!!
Thank you Shannon! I can display much better than I can actually cook! I hope you have a wonderful day too!
Great presentation. You took something “not so pretty” and glorified it! Great job! I will add this to my appetizer recipe stash for the Holidays. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Thank you Jennifer, I know, sometimes the most delicious stuff is not the prettiest!
Chloe, you are my hero! Braunschweiger is one of my favorite appetizers from my childhood! I grew up in a very German household, and this was (is?!) a staple at any family gathering. Now I am craving it! Thanks for participating in the blog swap and introducing others to this scrumptious dish!
Thank you Dee Dee! This is always very popular.
Recipes that have good memories attached are the best.
Isn’t that the truth, Cindy!
Your Braunschweiger party ball not only sounds delicious, but looks oh so pretty on the platter. When I was a little girl, I loved Braunschweiger and I haven’t had it in years upon years. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. I look forward to making it.
Thank you Kitty, I am not a fan, but it has been very popular with my guests and my hubby LOVES it!

Thank you Pam!
Chloe,
Thanks for a savory appetizer for holiday parties. Perfect for men! I haven’t had braunschweiger for many years. My mother really liked it.
Judith
Thank you Judith. I am not a braunschweiger fan, but my husband is nuts for it! He was so glad I chose this for my recipe, he will have an extra chance to have it this holiday season!
My first thought was it looked so pretty and then I read where you wrote it may not be pretty. It looks pretty and very delicious.
Thank you Debra, you know…the unfinished ball doesn’t look all that appetizing!
