Nautical Tablescape ~ Dinner for Two

When we get a break in the heat we love to have dinner out on the back porch.  This nautical tablescape was for a dinner for two, just my hubby and I out back.  With our daughter and granddaughters with us in Florida for an extended visit this summer we haven’t put our sailboat in the water.  We didn’t think we would have enough time to use it much on Lake Erie this year.  I know my husband misses it, and he loves dining outdoors, so I surprised him with a lovely nautical themed tablescape on the back porch in Florida for a dinner for two.
A Nautical Tablescape Dinner for Two (1)This table would be nice for a patriotic Fourth of July table, too, with the red and white striped placemats, the dinner plates with blue stars around the edges and the red salad plates.

Gather on the back porch for dinner for two with a nautical touch

The placemats and all of the plates, including my cute little “Ahoy” appetizer plates came from Home Goods, my favorite place to hunt for unique dishes at bargain prices.  I have had the red goblets for years and used my everyday flatware, Classic Shell by Oneida.

Nautical Tablescape on the back porchI brought a large lantern with a candle from my foyer to use on the table.  It gave off a lovely glow as dusk arrived that evening.  The lantern and candle are from Pottery Barn.

Le Voyage on the back porchTo make the basic patio chairs a bit more comfy, I brought out a couple of nautical style pillows, they helped set the mood, in addition to making the chairs a little more comfy.  I really do need to decide what I want to to for furnishing my porches, both back and front.

Ice bucket with champagne and a monkey fist knot

I iced down the Champagne in a bucket with rope handles and nestled a monkey fist knot on the table.  The stars tucked into the ice bucket were from the dollar spot at Target.  I picked up several sets of them for $3 each.  Each set has 2 red and white striped stars and one blue one with white stars.  I have already thought of all kinds of projects where I can use these.

Ahoy! A Nautical Tablescape

Nautical table for twoI moved the dishes aside so that you could see the pretty nautical placemats.  Crisp red, white and blue placemats with navy blue edges and an anchor.  That anchor would show off well with clear glass dishes for dessert!  Do you ever set a pretty table for two for just you and your spouse or someone special?

  1. You are such a sweet wife. Don’t you just love the $ 1 section at Target! I can get into trouble there sometimes. My Aunt has lived in Erie, PA most of her life. I remember swimming in Lake Erie as a kid when we would go visit my cousins. I hope you get to enjoy your sailboat some this summer.

    1. Thanks Dawn, Yes, I do love the $1 section! You know they are tricking us now with the $3 and $5 items there. We aren’t putting the boat in the water this year, alas, next year!
