The View from Foxglove Hill
Some mornings I sit here at my desk, diet coke in hand, looking out over the trees behind Foxglove Hill and can’t quite believe this is home. The leaves are still lush and green, the mornings are just beginning to hint at something cooler, and although summer isn’t quite finished, I can already feel my thoughts drifting toward autumn.
Maybe you’re the same way.
I have to keep myself from rushing the seasons, particularly Autumn, my favorite. There is something comforting about thinking ahead—imagining cozy dinners, candlelight, fresh flowers giving way to branches and acorns, and tables that invite people to linger just a little longer.
So this week’s View from Foxglove Hill is all about that gentle shift. No rushing to unpack every pumpkin just yet. Instead, we’re simply opening the door to a season I know so many of us love.
Can We Talk About Fall Yet? 🍂
Fall has always been my favorite season to decorate, entertain, and gather the people I love around the table. And after years of blogging, I’ve learned something: the best fall inspiration doesn’t begin when the first pumpkin appears in the stores. It begins long before that, while there is still plenty of sunshine left to enjoy.
So over the next few weeks, I’d love to invite you to come along with me as we begin our gentle transition into fall. I’ll be dusting off some of my favorite autumn decorating ideas, refreshing older posts with new inspiration, and sharing a few of the plans I’m dreaming up for my very first fall here at Foxglove Hill.
I have a feeling it’s going to be a beautiful season.
This week’s fall favorite…
When I created this table several years ago, I was trying to prove that a beautiful fall table didn’t need orange pumpkins everywhere. Looking back at it now, I’d style a few things differently—which is exactly why I decided to update the post. I think you’ll love the fresh version.
One of the first fall tables I’ll be revisiting is this woodland-inspired table with oak leaves and acorns. I still love the natural elements and the warm, collected feel it has, but if I were styling it today, I would make one simple change.
Instead of leaving the wood tabletop exposed, I’d begin with a rich deep green tablecloth. That single layer would create a beautiful backdrop for the place settings, allow the dishes to stand out, and give the entire table a more elegant, collected look.
That’s one of the things I enjoy most about looking back at older tables. My style hasn’t completely changed, but it has certainly evolved. Sometimes all it takes is one thoughtful update to make an old favorite feel new again.
While we’re easing into fall, I also shared something this week that I think pairs perfectly with the season ahead. One of the easiest ways to make your home feel ready for the change isn’t buying more décor—it’s simply changing the feeling of the room.
In my newest post, How to Add Seasonal Decor in Late July (Without Decorating for Fall Yet) I’m sharing the simple swaps I make every year using texture, color, natural materials, warm candlelight, and a few carefully chosen accessories. It’s the kind of decorating that whispers “fall” instead of shouting it—and it’s become one of my favorite ways to welcome the season.

As much as I love decorating for fall, I think what I love even more is what the season represents. Slowing down a bit. Opening our homes. Gathering around the table. Finding beauty in simple things.
That’s what I hope you’ll find here over the next few months.
We’ll be creating beautiful fall centerpieces, setting welcoming tables, refreshing rooms with cozy seasonal touches, sharing a few easy DIY projects, and, of course, hunting for those wonderful decorating finds that make a house feel like home.
I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to share this first autumn at Foxglove Hill with you.
Until next Tuesday…
Happy decorating,
