A Springtime Alfresco Tablescape featuring Lily of the Valley

Springtime is upon us and here in Florida it is time for some lovely outdoor dining! When I lived in Ohio spring always meant the pretty delicate little white bells of Lily of the Valley would start to appear in the woods behind our home.

Everything is green here in Florida which made my little patch of turf the perfect little spot forsetting my first alfresco table of the year.

Linens from last year’s Pottery Barn Lily of the Valley collection are a favorite of mine for springtime tables. Delicate bouquets of lily of the valley appear scattered across the tablecloth and napkins.

Place settings are anchored with faux boxwood placemats in keeping with the outdoor setting. The plate stack begins with white pierced porcelain chargers are topped with Pioneer Woman jade dinner plates and finished off with last year’s Monique Lhuillier lily of the valley embossed salad plates.

Sadly I cannot grow lily of the valley here in Florida, and it is very difficult to get fresh so I have used artificial for my centerpiece. Clusters of the stems are scattered in clear glass bottles down the center of my table.

The Monique Lhuillier stemware is still available from Pottery Barn. I used the wine glasses decorated with the graceful lily of the valley design on them.

Lily of the Valley has a special meeting to me. It is my birth month flower and it is the flower of my college sorority.

Treasured Gorham silver in the lily of the valley pattern was left to me by a dear friend. I look forward to using this every spring season.

I set the table earlier in the day but days are still short enough that it will be growing dark by the time we gather for dinner.

As the sun began to set the table took on special glow thanks to the arch over my table with pretty white ball lights tucked among some cedar garland.

Dining under the glow of the little lights made the evening magical.

Inviting friends to join you in your garden is such a delightful way to celebrate welcoming spring.

  2. How lovely. When they built your community, I remember it being called a front porch community. I love the back yard gardens in Charleston. Looks like you are creating your own.
You haven’t said anything about your parents lately. How are they ? I love that you have an apartment for them.
