The View from Foxglove Hill: Seasonal Touches and Simple Pleasures
Welcome back to The View from Foxglove Hill! This week, I have a little of this and a touch of fall to share with you—a gathering of decorating ideas, a golden autumn table, and a simple hosting tip that might just save dessert! With Thanksgiving getting closer, I thought it would be lovely to revisit a few projects and ideas that can bring something special to your home and gatherings. I’m also sharing a peek at what you’ll find when you follow along with me on Instagram!
A simple faux pumpkin can become such a lovely fall accent with a little floral embellishment! For this project, I secured floral foam to the top of a pumpkin, then filled it with cotton pods, autumn leaves, mums, and berries, letting some of the stems curve down over the sides. It’s an easy way to give a pumpkin you already own a fresh look, and you can choose colors to complement your own home. Display it on a sideboard, kitchen island, or hearth and enjoy it right through Thanksgiving! Find the steps in my fall pumpkin decorating tutorial.

With holiday entertaining on the horizon, here is one of my favorite little hosting tips: always have a backup dessert! Whether a cake takes a tumble or a pudding refuses to set, a carton of ice cream or sherbet tucked in the freezer can save the evening. Scoop it into pretty dishes, add a lovely cookie, a little fruit, or a sprig of mint, and you have a dessert that feels special with hardly any fuss. Visit my dinner party dessert tips for a friendly reminder that even when things don’t go as planned, you can still end the evening on a sweet note!

A little metallic shimmer is such a lovely way to dress up the natural textures of fall! For this easy craft, I gave pears, acorns, walnuts, and an acorn squash a gilded finish, turning simple seasonal accents into something special for Thanksgiving. I even added glitter to the acorn caps for an extra touch of sparkle. Gather them in a wooden bowl, tuck them into a cornucopia, or scatter a few along your table for a warm autumn glow. You can find all the details in my Thanksgiving decorating ideas post.

Sometimes the perfect container for a fall centerpiece is already waiting in your kitchen cupboard! I used an ordinary casserole dish as the base for this arrangement, filling it with soft neutral foliage, berries, faux flowers, and dried artichokes surrounding three taper candles. A few touches of greenery finish the arrangement beautifully, while the cascading leaves disguise the dish beneath. It’s a lovely idea for your Thanksgiving table, and you can change the colors to suit the dishes and linens you already own. Follow my fall centerpiece tutorial to make one of your own!

Rich browns and shimmering gold bring such warmth to an autumn table, and this tablescape combines them with a lovely mix of seasonal textures. Decorative gold antlers arch over a centerpiece filled with magnolia blossoms, leaves, pumpkins, gourds, acorns, and cotton bolls, while gold starburst chargers and chocolate brown napkins carry the colors into each place setting. The little antler place card holders add a charming finishing touch! If you’re gathering ideas for Thanksgiving or a special fall dinner, take a peek at my Golden Fall tablescape for inspiration.

Oh Chloe your centerpieces are so pretty. I would never have thought of adding cotton bolls but what a perfect addition. I especially am drawn to the Golden Fall tablescape…I have used ornaments as place card holders, but you take it to the next level. Thanks for your inspiration. hugs and blessings
