Hats Off To You! A Celebratory Tablescape

The time of year has arrived, time to celebrate and appreciate those who have accomplished things, like graduates, and those who mean so much to you, like Mom for Mother’s Day and Dad for Father’s Day.  Be it a Graduation Party, a Retirement Party, or perhaps someone has gotten a job they have been working toward or some other milestone, today’s tablescape is a great way to celebrate someone special by telling them, “hats off to you”!

A Retirement Party celebration dinner

I kept this a simple and rather elegant dinner with a black and white and red color scheme.  Black chargers were topped with white china dinner plates which were topped with a black and white patterned salad plate.

By using both fresh and artificial red roses, I got more showiness out of my centerpiece for a lot less money.  You can see how I combine fresh and artificial in other arrangements at my post on More Impact for Less Money.

A Dinner Party Tablescape in Red, Black and WhiteEach place setting was topped with a tiny black bottle serving as a vase for a red rose.  This tablescape could be designed with any number of colored flowers or even different style hats.  How about pink flowers and straw hats for a Mother’s Day, “Hats Off to You” themed luncheon?

Celebrating a Graduate with Hat's Off to YouThe centerpiece was a combination of three derbys.  The two on the ends had artificial red roses tucked under them, peeking out.  For the center derby I cut a hole out of the top of the derby and set a piece of floral foam on a black dish, set the derby on top and arranged the red roses, greenery, and baby’s breath.  The center arrangement could then be a gift for the guest of honor to take home to remember this special evening.

Derby hats floating above the dinner table take the centerpiece to new heights.

After floating my pink parasols above the table for my Paris party, I began thinking about all of the things I could hang above the table.  By adding items floating above the table, you take your centerpiece to new heights!

Derbys and Top Hats hang above a table celebrating the graduate with Hat's Off To You

Inexpensive costume derbys and top hats were suspended above the table to simulate everyone tossing their hats into the air in a celebration of the guest of honor.  I got my derbys at Amazon, but you might try a local party store for a local source.

Who would you like to celebrate and say “hats off too”?  I have so many people who I appreciate that I don’t know where I would start…but this has me thinking about how I can honor those around me who have accomplished amazing things.
