How to Add Fall Decor to Your Home

Mums and pumpkins on steps for fall

Adding fall decor to my home is a given for me and my family.  Fall colors are so warm and welcoming.   I am so glad to have you here!

Mantel and Hearth:

A mantel and hearth are natural places to add fall decor.  Dollar Tree leaves are a bargain for adding a touch of fall anywhere.

Fill a basket or tub like my big metal pot full of pumpkins and gourds and tuck the leaves in between them for abundant fall decor.

Although I didn’t capture them in this photo, adding fall pillows, or just adding fall pillow covers to your pillows is an easy way to switch up your decor for fall. These are similar to the covers I bought this year.

A pair of birdcages I first added to my mantel when I first started decorating for fall, still perch there with some new additions.

Wooden words, “autumn” and “gather” were discovered at Bullseye’s Playground at Target along with a sweet little fox.

When we bought our home it had a funky electric fireplace.  If I were to have a fire, it would not be electric!  When we restyled our mantel and fireplace, we decided to remove the black electric insert.  This leaves us a great spot to style for the holidays.  This rustic metal vessel is an import from Asia which seemed perfect for a collection of pumpkins.

Faux pumpkins, fall leaves and berries suggest the season with the rich colors.  A galvanized lantern with a candle that comes on automatically every evening offers a nice warm glow.

A short stack of pumpkins graces the top of a chippy bookshelf.  I like adding as many real pumpkins for my fall decor as my pocketbook will allow!

In the Tavern Room:

Many people ask me what a “tavern room” is.  While browsing home builders’ websites, I came across many with plans that featured “tavern rooms”.   A space where we could have a big table that everyone could gather around for holiday meals, a bar and a sideboard to hold extra serving dishes.

I styled my table as shown above for my Welcome Fall Tablescape.  Next week I will be sharing this table all dressed for Halloween.

There is always a little nod to coastal in my home.  This great faux shell holds different things through the year.  Right now it is filled with soft sculpture pumpkins in blues and grays.  In the background you can see that fall colored throws and pillows are added to chairs for that fall decor look.

Front Porch:

We don’t get a lot of fall color in Florida, so I add color with pumpkins and mums.  See all of those brown leaves?  That is what we get from all of the Sycamore trees.

Don’t you love taking the time to pick out fun pumpkins.  I know I study them and make sure I select the ones that call to me…like this one with the cute curly stem!

See that garland of leaves?  I made that using the abundance of Sycamore leaves.  A dear friend suggested the black and white buffalo check for ribbon, I think it was the perfect choice!

When you don’t get pretty fall leaves, you just have to buy them!  I added some pretty fall leaves by sticking them into my mums and tucking them in amongst my pumpkins.  Just like indoors, adding fall pillows and throws to the front porch is the perfect way to add fall decor.

  1. Your home looks gorgeous and I am blown away by your beautiful porch! I only have a few things on mine right now and we have to spray our plants so the deer don’t eat them. Also, I love all your pretty and colorful decor along with your coastal touches. So nice to hop with you!

    1. Thank you so much! I have lived where we have had to deal with the deer, but we are on a busy corner now and haven’t had them in our yard. Thanks so much, Shelley, it is great to be part of another one of Amber’s hops!

  3. I know people stop at your porch and take their fall family photos… they just have too! It’s fantastic and I love all the mums and perfectly picked pumpkins with your homemade leaf garland! I want to do that.

As for the inside, oh my, who gets to say they have a “tavern room”?! That would be so fun. So many of us have to add card tables to hold everyone and that’s just not as fun.

Love your mantel and fireplace decor as well. I’ve never heard of an electric fireplace. I’ll have to ask Ms. Google to see that. Enjoy your fall. Everything is seriously beautiful Chloe! Pinned

    1. Oh Cindy, you are so funny! No one has stopped to do that…(that I know of)! I do love coming home to my fall decorated porch. Inside…well, we don’t have an eat in kitchen, so we needed someplace for that big ol’ table! Electric fireplaces are ugly and so fake looking. I don’t really need a fireplace in Florida, anyway!

  4. Chloe just beautiful. Love all your fall touches. You would think you brought cold air down south.

Your plaids are pretty and love your faux shell filled with pumpkins.

Wish I was able to participate. A head cold from the devil took over my body. Just beginning to feel human.

  7. Chloe, Your porch has got to be the prettiest one on your street. How do you keep all those pumpkins in the Florida heat? I haven’t bought any pumpkins yet and when I do they will be little pie pumpkins. Your arrangement by your mantel is really stunning. As usually, everything is beautiful!

  8. Wow, Chloe, this is amazing!!! We get all the fall feels starting at the porch and it just keeps getting better. I’ve given up on real pumpkins on the porch or in the yard. I battled the squirrels for years and they won. Thank goodness for the faux ones and for sales. Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. Hey Chloe! I love all the colorful Fall touches throughout your home. Your front porch is simply amazing!!! Your Fall tablescape in the tavern is gorgeous – you are definitely the tablescape queen! So happy to be on tour with you!

  10. Chloe, I loved your mantle. Perfect for fall. But then I saw your front porch and I just swooned. It is sooo perfectly fall. I’m jealous because we don’t have a porch. You have decorated it as a warm, cozy and colorful entry for your home with all the pumpkins, lantern, check ribbon and garland. Awesome job, my friend.

  11. Chloe your home looks beautiful decorated for fall! The fireplace opening display is stunning! I love the colors and varieties of fall harvest goodies you chose both inside and out.

I love coastal style, so I am really enamored by the faux shell with the pumpkins. So gorgeous! I also adore your sycamore leaf garland.

You have definitely given us all ideas for embracing fall this year.

Thanks so much for embracing fall with us!

  12. Like Cindy, as I admired your beautiful porch, I was thinking that this would be a great spot for fall family pictures. What a beautiful display you created and it must be a joy to see it every time you come home.

I’ve never heard of a tavern room in a home and I really like the idea of having a huge room with a large table that big groups can enjoy using for meals. My aunt added on to her house to have a room to host her family for meals. I’ll have to tell her to start calling it a tavern room.

I love that your fireplace is empty so that you can decorate it. 🙂 I know that I’d prefer a real fire over an electric one any day.

Looking forward to seeing your Halloween table in the tavern room.

  13. A very welcoming fall home. I especially love your front porch! The Sycamore leaves are great and black and white check is really big for fall this year.
    Happy fall,
    Jann

  14. I have to agree with you on that one Chloe. Fall is here, but Florida doesn’t know it yet. My favorite season offers so much from nature that we ought to be grateful for every single one of them. Your porch should be posted on a magazine cover. Everything about it calls out home. Great display as usual, thank you for sharing your tavern room with us.

  15. Your front porch is a dream my friend!! So beautiful! I love your tavern room and think it’s the perfect name for that beautiful gathering table! I love the idea of a pot full of Fall florals in the fireplace! Gorgeous tour!

  16. I love this interior! When it comes to interior design, it becomes my weakness. Recently, I made repairs in my apartment, I wanted to transform my home. I dreamed of a nice color and a few highlights in the design. Therefore, I ordered a push pin travel map on Texelprintstore.com and it perfectly complemented the interior and made it interesting. I managed to create my dream apartment.
