A St. Patrick’s Arrangement

It is that time of the month again! Time for the Creative Craft Blog Hop! I love this hop because there are so many different kinds of crafts represented by all of these different bloggers! What kind of crafts do you like to see the most? Let me know in the comments below!

I don’t do a lot of decorating for St. Patrick’s day, but I do like to add a little bit of green here and there for the season, particularly when we have some time between Valentine’s Day and Easter. I thought an “L” shaped arrangement would be perfect on one corner of my mantel this year.

If you have been with me since St. Patrick’s Day last year, you might remember me using a pair of my grandaughters’ Irish dance shoes on a wreath. If you didn’t see that, you can see it at: A Unique St. Patrick’s Day Wreath.

I used chartreuse reindeer moss to fill the dance shoes.

I have never been to Ireland, but I think of it as very earthy and of course green. I thought this wooden pedestal bowl from Kirkland’s was just the thing to elevate the arrangement on my mantel.

I tucked a couple of pieces of styrofoam in the container and ran a couple of pieces waterproof floral tape over the top of the foam. I added a piece of tpe across the end of each end of the tape for a little extra security.

I used just one package of moss to cover the styrofoam.

Greening pins were used to secure the moss to the foam.

It is okay if some of the styrofoam is still showing. Don’t worry about that.

I did use some spring green reindeer moss to fill in some of those bare spots. I had some of it left from filling in the dance shoes.

Using greening pins over the laces from the dance shoes, secure them to the styrofoam so that they hang the way you want to display them as part of your arrangement.

I wanted my shoes hanging, but not touching the mantel.

I wanted to make an “L” shaped arrangement, so I began with branches loosely forming the shape. Additional flowers will support the shape.

Faux bells of Ireland were used to support the shape and I began using pale cream and light green florals to fill in the arrangement.

Just like that, filled in, your arrangement is done! If you would like yours to be a little more St Patrick’s themed, you can add a few shamrock picks to your arrangement.

  6. I love the Irish dancing shoes. Those are so adorable with moss inside. This turned out great. Where did the moss come from? Did I miss a link? And the wood pedestal bowl where is that from?

  7. Do you know of a good source to buy artificial Bells of Ireland that don’t cost an arm and a leg. The only source I have found started at $125.00 for 5 stems in a vase filled with acrilic. I would like them loose so I can make my own arrangement. Any help would be appriciated.

  8. Very elegant. The creams and greens are perfect. Just enough green to fit in with St. Patrick’s day and not too much that it can’t be used for spring decor. Beautiful.

  9. I just love that you found another creative way to use your granddaughter’s Irish dancing shoes, Chloe. I loved the wreath that you made with them last year. The floral arrangement in the pedestal bowl is beautiful! The faux flowers look so realistic. I really love the twigs and moss! Pinned 🙂 It’s always fun to hop with you, my friend!

  11. Thank you so much for sharing this! Three of my children did Irish Step and I have a box full of ghillies that I couldn’t bear to part with. I never thought of crafting with them. I would love to make this for my home and something on a smaller scale for my girls!
