A Pretty Cottage Guest Room Takes Shape
This pretty cottage guest room, the smaller of our two guest rooms is ready for guests. No, this room isn’t finished, but I have made great strides throughout the house and this, so far it my absolute favorite. I just smile when I walk into this pretty room. I hope my guests will enjoy staying in this lovely room.
The bedside stands in this room were previously in our master bedroom they need to be painted, but I am not ready to take on that project quite yet. The bed is the Claudette headboard from Ballard Design and the little wooden bird can be removed if you don’t care for it. This bed is available with a footboard also. The paint color I chose is the same color we have painted to public rooms of our house, Lily White by Benjamin Moore. This is a pretty pale blue that can look white or soft grey depending upon the lighting and time of day.
There are also mirrors as part of the collection. The wood Birdsong mirrors and bed are available in two different finishes. These would be a lovely addition to a farmhouse style cottage.
Here was the “before”. This was taken when the home was still on the market. The door between the two guest rooms was very odd. That was one of the first things that had to go. A local handyman was called in to remove the door and drywall over that opening. Now I am able to place the head of the bed on the wall that is actually between the two rooms.

I was thrilled when I found this bedspread, it was the perfect finale for making this pretty bed. This is the Allie Quilt by Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s. I love the look of lots of pillows on a bed, but that is not always practical for guests, so I kept the decorative pillows to the pair of euro pillows and the fun one with a Woodie on the beach ready to take someone surfing. A pretty dust ruffle will finish off the bed for guests.
A pair of distressed lamps give guests light to read by and accents like this cute little candle with a bird on the lid tie into the bird on the bed for a cohesive look.
This little bird dish would have been perfect for a bedside. This cast iron little bird dish is only $6.90 on Amazon!
Walls display marriage certificates from my grandparents and great grandparents along with a fun vintage picture of bathing beauties. I love giving my guests hooks for quick hang ups when they are coming and going while they are visiting. The dish on this side of the bed is actually a white bird adorned soap dish, but I think it makes a nice place for guests to leave their jewelry at night. If you are coming by, the sheets are crisp and clean and ready for you! I installed new faux wood white blinds and have hung a room darkening panel over them. I hope to find the perfect curtains to complete the look.
I will be sharing this at the following link parties: Thoughts of Home on Thursday | The Creative Circle |
Chloe, guest rooms are so much fun to put together. I am so jealous that you have headboard from Ballard’s. I love it and I would leave the bird on. 🙂
Your bedding is perfect. You are right about the pillows…I have too many (because I love the look) but our guests aren’t sure what to do with them. They don’t know that in our master bedroom we just throw them down.
The hooks are smart too!
I’d love for you to link with us at Thoughts of Home on Thursday today. 🙂
Thank you Stacey, we actually call this the “bird” room so we know which room we are talking about! Thanks for the invitation, I will head on over!
Very tranquil. Love it.
Thank you Ellen!
Such a big change from before! The room is now light and airy and has a definite coastal vibe. I love the idea of the hooks on the wall it’s practical and decorative at the same time. I’m in the process of deciding what to do with one of our guest rooms. At times it serves double duty as a home office as well. The problem there is that when we have guests office equipment and supplies have to be moved. Decisions, decisions!
Oh, it is always so difficult when you have to use a room for two functions. I am keeping the office space built into the closet in the “kid’s room” for myself so at least I can hide the stuff behind closet doors. I figure my grandbabies don’t need closet space when they come to visit!
I am drooling over those side tables!! Beautiful room Chloe.
Thank you Christine! It’s almost done!
You were so smart to close that doorway. I tend to work with things the way they are to a fault! Your room is lovely and your guests are lucky.
Oh, Ellis, I had to close over that door…it was quite odd! Wait until I show you what the other side of the wall looks like now! Coming soon!
What a beautiful and inviting space you’ve created … your guests won’t want to leave 🙂 I hope you are having a great week!
Smiles!

Thank you Terry!
Your room looks so calming. Lucky guests! I recently changed my spare room as well from yellow to a more beige/grey. Hope you are feeling a little more settled in your new home.
What a wonderfully romantic space. I adore the headboard!
It is such a joy to have you join the gathering at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. You really help to elevate it to something very special.
Thank you Laura. I love this room, alas, it isn’t the master bedroom! thank you so much for the invitation!
I love the coastal theme! Coming to you from Celebrate Your Story.
Thank you Marilyn!
What a lovely room. Your guests must feel so welcomed and comforable. I love the color of the walls. And the bed looks so much better on that wall instead of in front of the windows.
Thank you Rebecca, I have had one house guest so far and she loved it! I can’t figure out why the previous owner didn’t close up that doorway.
Thank you for sharing your time and talents with us on Thoughts of Home on Thursday.
Every detail is perfect and the transformation is so beautiful!
