How to Decorate a Fall Tree
As I begin to transform my home for the coming fall season, I decided to add a fall decorated tree to my autumn decor. This is a great way to bring the beauty of fall indoors by decorating a harvest tree. Just like a Christmas tree, a faux fall tree becomes a focal point, draped in the rich colors and textures of the season. From vibrant autumn leaves to rustic ribbons and miniature baskets filled with apples and pears, a harvest tree can capture the essence of fall in a truly unique and festive way. In this post, I’ll guide you through the steps to create a show-stopping fall tree that brings warmth and seasonal charm into your home.

I used a slim tree that tucks into its own perfect spot. You could also choose to to display your autumn tree on your front porch. Unlike my Christmas tree, I want this to be as an accent than a center of attention. This small tree seemed just perfect. It is pre-lit, and instead of using the traditional stand, I put mine in a decorative urn. If you can decorate a Christmas tree, you will find this and easy diy!

The first step is to take some garlands of colorful leaves and wrap them around the tree from top to bottom. If there are not enough leaves on your garland, you can always add additional ones to your tree. Use some garlands you are using elsewhere in your fall decor.

You can use as many garlands as you wish, depending how many leaves you want to add to your tree. The same thing goes for the color of the garlands. I used a rather brown and golden garland.

The next step is to add ribbon!

Add ribbon from the top to the bottom of the tree. Depending upon the size of your tree, I recommend two to three lengths of two different ribbons from to to bottom. For this slim tree I used two lengths of two different fall ribbons.

Attach your ribbon to the top and then tuck it in and out down your tree using the the wired tips of the tree to secure the ribbons as you come down the tree.

Use two ribbons of different patterns, one a plaid and the other a floral, or in this case, a leaf pattern.

You can add bows, or more simply, take the ribbon and make two loops, one larger than the other and secure them with a pipe cleaner. Then, add those to spots along your ribbons down the length of your tree.

Now you can start to really have fun styling your tree. There are so many creative ways you can decorate your tree with! You can find ornaments like this little wooden leaf I spotted at Hobby Lobby! Here is a link to some really cute wooden ornaments from Etsy!

Use decorative fall picks like these to add to your tree, simply stick them into the tree.

If you have pumpkins and gourds that do not have a stick on them, simply stick a wooden skewer into the bottom of them, and if necessary, use some hot glue to secure the skewer.

You can find some great deals like these tiny faux pumpkins on Amazon to add to your tree. Don’t hesitate to add larger pumpkins and gourds if your tree can support them. The favorite thing I added to my tree is these cute little baskets which I filled with faux apples, gourds and other fall fruits and leaves.

If you want to make this into some family fall tree art projects, consider making some easy paper leaves. Use colorful tissue paper or crepe paper to cut leaf shapes to add to your tree. This is a fun craft to incorporate into your autumn tree decorating.
Your tree is now ready for you to proudly show off your fall spirit!

As you finish decorating your fall or harvest tree, you’ll find that this simple project brings the warmth and beauty of the season right into your home. I would love to see your gorgeous trees! Whether you’re inspired by the colors of the leaves or the textures of autumn’s bounty, creating a fall tree is one of the most delightful fall craft ideas that can transform any space. So gather your favorite fall art projects, get creative with your decorations, and enjoy the cozy, festive atmosphere you’ve created. Happy fall!
