Make a Creepy Jack O’ Lantern

Today I am sharing a fun but creepy jack o’lantern that can bring a little spookiness to any corner of your home this coming season. I am using mine as part of a Halloween vignette on my kitchen island. Follow along to see how I made mine, and customize yours however you choose!

You can use a carvable craft pumpkin and carve it with whatever face you would like, or you can purchase a creepy pre lit jack o’lantern and personalize it. I began with a craft pumpkin that I carved and used last Halloween. I had already painted this white and trimmed the cut outs with black last year.

I used burnt orange and espresso paints and a chip brush to transform the jack o’lantern.

Use a chip brush dipped first in the burnt orange and then the espresso paints on the pumpkin.

It is easy to turn him into this creepy looking guy!

I selected a basswood round from Michaels because I had it on hand, but you could just as easily use a plate or platter from Dollar Tree for a base.

A small grapevine wreath gets a coating of hot glue.

Press the wreath down on the base, no matter if you use a slice of wood, or a Dollar Tree platter!

After giving the paint treatment to a couple of smaller pumpkins, dip them in hot glue and attach them to the top of your jack o’ lantern.

It is almost like a wart or other creepy growth on the head of the jack o’ lantern.

Add some Spanish moss to the top of your jack o’ lantern wrapping it around and between the small pumpkins. Add some dried flowers around the base of the pumpkin, gluing it into the grapevine wreath. Add some additional dried or artificial flowers or pods. Lotus pods are particularly creepy looking!

Finish off the jack o’ lantern with a little bit of creepy black fabric. I picked up a package of this at Dollar Tree.

Add your creepy jack o’ lantern to a Halloween vignette and enjoy him through the spooky season!
