Make a Gift Bag Out of Wrapping Paper
It is time to start wrapping some gifts and I want to show you how to make a gift bag out of wrapping paper when you have a gift that is an unusual shape. Â Tervis reached out to me to see if I would be interested in giving some of their tumblers as gifts, and they certainly are not an easy-to-wrap shape. This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. To make your gift bag you will begin by making sure your piece of wrapping paper is going to be large enough to cover your gift. Â
When you are sure you have enough paper, you will cut it and then fold over the edges so they appear finished to seal up the back of your bag. Â
Use double sided tape to seal the back of your bag together. Â Press down the folds at the corners of your bag well.Fold over the bottom of your ‘bag’, again creasing the folds well. Â
Open up the bottom where you have folded the paper. Â
Fold over the sides of the bottom part into triangles. Â This part gets difficult to follow in photos which is why I provided a video also.
Fold over each side to form the bottom of your bag and secure with tape. Â
Fold over the top of your bag and put your gift inside. Â Fold over the top. Â I use a hole punch to punch two holes along the top of the fold and then threaded a ribbon through the holes and tied a bow. Â
I am not just tucking a Tervis tumbler in my gift bags, I am adding a little extra to them! Â This cute Tsum Tsum tumbler will have a surprise tucked inside. Four little Tsum Tsums will be ready to come out to play from their Tsum Tsum printed tumbler. Â
What will be going in the Dream Big Princess tumbler? Â A pretty princess tee shirt will be rolled up and tucked into this one!
An oversized Dory won’t fit inside this Finding Dory tumbler, but will accompany the tumbler in an oversized DIY gift bag. Â
With all of the excitement of a new Star Wars movie due out in just two weeks, I didn’t want to neglect a dear Star Wars Fan. Â I decided I might forgo the gift bag for a box for this impressive Tervis Star Wars tumbler which I will wrap with a movie gift card. Â I will need to deliver this one early so the recipient can get his tickets now! Â
If you are stumped for a unique gift for someone this holiday season, think about a Tervis tumbler, trust me, there is a design for everyone. Â If you can’t find one you like, you can customize one so it is perfect for gift giving. Â Think about how you can add a little something extra like I did. Â

Thank you Penny. I really like that I can make my bags match the rest of my gift packaging for a coordinated look under my tree.
Excellent way to wrap my favorite go to glass that I use every day. And I have so much wrapping paper it is a great way to use it.
Thanks Debra, I use mine everyday, too! Mostly I love DIY bags so that my wrapping paper all coordinates under the tree!
Thanks Chloe for this great and useful tutorial. Have a wonderful week!
I’ve made up pouches for gifts but never created a bag with a bottom! I’ll try to remember how to do this or refer back here to remember!
