A Life in Celebration…interrupted

If you are a regular reader, you may wonder where I have been the last several weeks. I am sorry to have left you out of the loop! On Easter Sunday my father, who is 96 years old fell down an entire set of stairs. My dad lives in an apartment above our garage (and does have a lift chair to go up and down stairs!). We were sitting by the pool on that lovely day talking about the nice Easter dinner we were going to have when we heard it, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump! It was so scary, we ran and there he was at the bottom of the stairs, on the floor, and there was blood everywhere. 911 was called and dad was taken to our local trauma center. We were so blessed, he did not break one bone!!! On the other hand, he hurt his shoulder, and at his age, his skin is so very thin, it had ripped all over his body. There has been a lot of caring for dad since then, changing bandages, administering medications, fixing meals, etc. He is on the mend now, and I am back at the keyboard.

I have taken a few minutes to start to style the front porch for the season. I will be sharing that in the next couple of weeks! Did you see my porch all decked in daisies last year? You can see the tablescape here, and the wreath here! This year will be a different flower! I can’t wait to share it!! Any guesses?

One of my favorite ever summer tablescapes was this ‘Pallet Picnic‘! I will admit, I don’t want to sit down on the ground any more, even with the help of a fluffy pillow, but this same setting could be styled on a picnic table for a similar look! Think about trying something like this sometime in the coming months!

Are you fixing up your outdoor areas for the summertime? Of course we have pleasant outdoor weather nearly year round here in central Florida, but we needed to do some fixing up. One of the things we needed was some privacy between us and our neighbors. (Disclosure: Our neighbors are lovely people.) Our yard was quite sloped, so when they put in our pool, in order to have it on the same level of our home, they had to build up the deck. This made our pool deck higher than our neighbors yard, so we looked down on their pool and they looked up on our pool deck.

      1. Hope your Dad is doing much better and removing quickly. I can’t imagine falling down stairs from the top of a garage level at 71 and he is 97. He was very lucky that he didn’t break any bones or worse. Caring hugs to you and your dad. Love the pool area and anxious to see your porch.
