Fourth of July Firecracker Cupcakes
Fourth of July Firecracker Cupcakes!
This one is from the archives, but I thought it was worth sharing again! I think these are the cutest things for the Fourth of July!
Check out these adorable Firecracker Cupcakes! Easier to make than they look, I am going to share the secret to making it look like you have little firecrackers perched on your cupcakes. Yes! These are totally edible, read on to see how to create these really fun, and delicious little treats for the upcoming Fourth of July Holiday!
You will start out by making your “firecrackers”, which can be done a couple of days ahead of time. Get some red candy melts and melt them in your microwave in a container deep enough for you to dip a regular size marshmallow into. Use a wooden skewer stuck into the top of the marshmallow to dip the marshmallow into the candy melts. Lift the marshmallow out and set it on a piece of wax paper. If you have trouble getting the marshmallow to release from the wooden skewer, use a second skewer to push the marshmallow free. Immediately take a short piece of a black licorice lace, dip the end of it into your red candy melts and stick it into the indentation left from the skewer. Set these aside and let them harden.
Bake cupcakes in your choice of flavors. I used these great Duncan Hines summer special, Red Velvet and Blue Velvet, for a little surprise when guests bit into the cupcakes.Using white frosting in a pastry bag, squeeze a little bit of frosting in the middle of your cupcake for your firecracker to stick to.
Place your marshmallow firecracker onto the dollop of frosting. Using a #18 tip, add stars of frosting around your firecrackers.
Add some patriotic sprinkles and you have your firecrackers! I had guests who were sure that the firecrackers were little candles stuck in the cupcakes. I had to demonstrate that I could eat one before some of them would try to eat them! They were actually licking them to make sure it wasn’t wax!
I hope you make these for your Fourth of July party and have fun with these cupcakes too!
These are so adorable!! Looking forward to hearing how you made these :).
