The Fourth of July will be here before you know it. Do you think you don’t have time to be creating some time-consuming, extravagant dessert? Guess again! Only 4 ingredients! This is so easy, and so impressive, people will be wowed when you show up with this Fourth of July Firecracker Cake at your picnic.
Ingredients:
- Sara Lee Frozen Pound Cakes (I used one Family Size and one Regular Size)
- Store bought cake frosting
- Skittles America Mix
- Black licorice
Sound simple? Here’s how to make an easy Fourth of July Dessert…

For the smaller of the two firecrackers begin with a Family Size Sara Lee Pound Cake. (Isn’t that easy?)
For the larger firecracker I used one of the regular size Sara Lee pound cakes and about 2/3 of a second regular size one. I limited mine by the size of my platter, and you certainly can do the same thing.
Using a serrated edge knife, sculpt your pound cake into a rounded shape.Frost your cake with your favorite frosting, if you want this to be really easy, use your favorite canned frosting! I used white frosting on both of these cakes.
Apply the Skittles candies in a pattern as shown or use any pattern or repetition of colors you like. If you have old children around the house, this is a great job for them. Of course they will probably have to taste test some of those Skittles, and maybe a little frosting, too!
Finish adding the Skittles in the diagonal pattern until you have covered the entire cake. Next, stick a piece of black licorice into the end as a fuse, and you have one firecracker finished.
Repeat the process with your smaller cake and there you have your impressive, and fun firecracker cakes. Enjoy your Fourth of July and don’t spend your time in the kitchen with this easy, no-bake dessert! I told you it was easy! Enjoy your cakes and all the compliments you will receive!

Thank you Barb, definitely good last minute (or hour) thing!
Such a cute idea Chloe and I love anything that is semi-homemade. I was thinking you could also use M & M’s in place of the skittles. I’ve not been down the candy aisle in awhile, but I didn’t realize they had a Skittles America mix.
Thank Dawn, I think the Skittles America mix is new this summer. I think M&M’s would be great…not so sweet!
Super creative Chloe I love it!
Chloe, this is really a cute cake. And it would be fun (if not a little messy) for kids to help with. Thank you for sharing at Your Inspired Design LInk Party.
What a fun and tasty idea for a patriotic party! I love quick and easy and this looks great, too!
How about making 13 red and white stripes , then blue for the flag at top? and little drops of white somethings for the stars? Your idea is cuuute!!! I’m going to try the stripes as less time consuming.. Either way Great idea and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO YOU AND YOUR VIEWERS!! BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN 2022
