My Version of a Nancy Meyer’s Interior

I poured my heart and soul into my home. I really thought this would be the last house. I am so blessed that in late December my husband asked why we were staying in Florida when we want to be close to our daughter and her family. Our granddaughters are growing up so quickly, we want to capture more time with them before they are off making lives of their own. So…before I leave I wanted to share it one more time.

This home was on the market for quite awhile and there was an open house every weekend. Every weekend on our walk from our condominium to downtown Celebration, we would walk into the house and take another look. After several weekends, the realtor holding the open houses finally asked us when we were just going to buy it!

The houses in Celebration have to fit an approved architectural style. The styles in the community are Victorian, Neo-Victorian, French, Craftsman, Classical, Mediterranean and Coastal. (This has varied a bit in recent years.) Our home was a classic coastal style and I wanted to work with the coastal vibe.

Woven woods and white linen curtains were an easy choice for the living room windows. I had a wonderful master carpenter who put in the coffered ceiling for me. Although a lot of coastal style homes are furnished with slipcovered sofas, I wanted the bold navy blue to add color to this room. We never really used this room much and found a new house in Georgia without a formal living room.

The only place I used bold color on the walls was in the dining room. The table was from Ballard Designs and the chairs were an amazing Etsy find that I had painted and reupholstered with lovely Serena and Lily fabric. The silver deer head are not really coastal, but we brought them from our last home and they do look stunning on the navy blue wall.

Regular readers may be seeing these rooms not decorated for a holiday or gathering for the first time ever!

This is the family room where we spend plenty of time together. There are so very many posts here on the blog showing all of the different ways I have decorated this mantel for the different holidays. If you look to the right you will see the large sailboat model I found to display in this opening between the family room and the living room. Prior to moving to Florida we lived on Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio and sailed a 41′ sailboat on the lake. Therefore, we selected the leather Chesterfield sofas and the sailboat to give this room a bit of a vintage yacht club vibe. The sailboat model was the perfect thing to separate the two spaces, without closing them off or blocking off the sunlight from the front windows. When we purchased the house their were shutters in this opening which really darkened the family room. The new owners of our house have seen the beauty in the sailboat and we have left it for them.

I can’t quite remember how I came up with the name, “tavern room”, but this is what this room became known as. When we purchased the house this was another sitting room with a television on the wall, as well as one above the fireplace. Not needing multiple rooms to watch television, this became a room with a large farmhouse table to gather friends and family around.

The primary bedroom is probably the most “coastal” of the rooms. This bed was purchased when we bought the house. The duvet is from Ballard Designs. I loved that the room was wide enough to accomodate dressers that acted as bedside stands, but also gave us generous storage space. You can never have enough storage, can you?

Speaking of storage, do you see that closet?!! That closet was also a sitting room with a television, so when we renovated our bathroom and closet we just moved our closet to that space. I cannot express enough how wonderful it is to have an island in your closet if you travel a lot. For my husband, being able to just put his suitcase on the island to pack it has been a dream.

Below is the guest room that my granddaughters share whenever they come to visit! Even though they will be within bicycling distance, I imagine they will be coming to spend the nights sometime in my new house!

The second guest room was styled all around the big piece of artwork on the wall. The picture purchased from Restoration Hardware years ago. I love it so much, it is such a statement piece. It is actually a photo of a stable in France. It held a prominent place in our original condominium in Celebration which was decorated in British Colonial style. I love so many styles, I tend to change mine up when I move to a new home. This is the only room that was not decorated in a coastal style due to the painting it was decorated around.

All in all, I achieved the comfortable and welcoming style I wanted in my Florida home. As I said, it was a labor of love and I so enjoyed living there and hosting family and friends there. Now…it is off to a new adventure and a new style! Thanks for following along!
