How to Create a Cozy Fall Home With Easy Projects You Can Do Yourself

It has been a whirlwind of a month for me, how about you? After lots of traveling and lots of company in August, I hunkered down to gets lots of projects done in September. I feel like I went from one project to another, rather non-stop. Do you ever do that? Looking around I feel great satisfaction with everything I accomplished. My home is ready fall with all kinds of cozy fall decorating ideas.

I am so honored to be joining Terrie from Decorate & More with Tip as she hosts this Fall Home Tour! I hope you will enjoy touring all of the blogs you will find listed at the bottom of this post!

Fall greetings in the foyer:

Some of the things I have been creating and that you can make yourself are the fall arrangements and topiaries. It is fun to have this light up topiary in my foyer to greet not just guests, but myself when I arrive with the sun setting so early these evenings.

Yes, this began on the mantel, but I kept playing around with things until I was happy with every little thing. Do you do that? Do you decorate something for the holidays and then move things around until you are satisfied with all of it? When I moved this to the foyer, the cream colored pot wasn’t just right. I needed something a little beefier and something a little darker. I simply popped the styrofoam cone out of the original pot and and placed it in the new one. I think it looks just right, what about you?
You can get the full tutorial for this and make it for your home at: How to Make this Stunning Illuminated Topiary for Fall.

A chinoiserie mantel for fall:

I have really been crushing on blue and white with orange for fall.

The arrangement below in the tall chinoiserie pot began in a much smaller vase. While fooling around with how I would arrange things on my mantel, I ended up moving the entire arrangement into this one. You can follow along and make your own arrangement just like this one at A Fantastic Fall Arrangement.

Cozy little yarn pumpkins:

I started making these little yarn pumpkins back in late July and I am still making them!

There are so many times when you can make these.

  • With friends at a conference.
  • Just you and a girlfriend or a sister while visiting and catching up.
  • With a Brownie or Girl Scout troop.
  • With a Sunday School class.
  • By yourself while watching television.
  • With your family after Sunday dinner.

I really loved displaying mine in a shallow basket on my coffee table, but so did Lily, my Standard Poodle puppy. She thought those looked like nice little balls. So, I figured out a way to display them, but keep them out of Lily’s reach. I added some pine cones to complete the cozy feeling on my coffee table. If you have someone who might like to get their hands (or paws) on your pumpkins, you might want to pick up a wire basket like this that lets you display your fall goodies without them disappearing around the house!

You can find all of the instructions for making these cute and cozy little fellows at DIY Yarn Pumpkins.

Apples in the kitchen:

I made this pretty apple topiary and added it to my kitchen island. I don’t know why I just love apples and oak leaves together this time of year.

A burlap bag that advertises apples was filled with apples, little pumpkins and fall leaves. I brought this out from last year and added it to my little topiary of apples this year. You can see how easy this is to recreate here.
